All About Your Gulf Coast Vacation!

16

Many of our guests at Liquid Life are already aware of the answers to some of the top questions that new visitors ask about vacationing in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. But, even some of the vacationers who have visited the white sand beaches of the Gulf Coast countless times might not know the answers to all of them. So, for all of our seasoned vets and newbies, here are 10 FAQs for your Gulf Coast vacation!

1. Why is the sand so white?

No doubt the first thing you'll notice when you arrive on the Gulf Coast is our beautiful white sand beaches. The sand really does look like white sugary powder - and it's not found many other places in the entire world! It shimmers so beautifully in the summer sun that you'll never want to visit any other beach again.

2. Why are colored flags flying at the beach?

Most of our public beaches fly flags in various colors to let everyone know what the current water conditions are. A green flag means conditions are calm, and yellow urges swimmers to take caution from moderate waves. Red flags mean conditions with strong surf, high waves, and currents. Double red flags are typically flown during strong storms and mean the water is dangerous & no swimming is permitted. Lastly, purple flags mean hazardous marine life (typically jellyfish!) are present.

3. Can you have a beach bonfire in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach?

Unfortunately, the Alabama Gulf Coast does not allow bonfires on the beach, specifically Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. That goes for public beach access spots and beaches at vacation rental properties.

4. Are tents allowed on the beach?

Tents are allowed on our beaches in most areas! Larger canopy tents cannot be larger than 12x12 because they tend to block views of the water from other guests.

5. May I leave items on the beach overnight in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach?

Gulf Shores and Orange Beach do not allow anything to be left on the beach overnight - including beach chairs and tents. Everything must be removed from the beach before you leave so that the beach remains uncluttered at the beginning of each day. Anything left on the beach an hour after sunset will be removed by beach patrol. This is all a part of the Leave Only Footprints initiative, working to maintain a clean coast for generations to come.

6. Should I rent a Gulf-Front or Gulf-View property?

A Gulf-Front property is located right on the beach with unobstructed views of the shimmering Gulf waters. Most Gulf-Front beach homes and condos include beach access for guests only as well. Gulf-View properties have a view of the Gulf but are not directly on the beach. Typically more inexpensive, Gulf-View properties are still within easy walking distance of our white sand beaches.

7. Can I book a condo for just a weekend?

While most vacation destinations require a 7-night minimum stay, Liquid Life offers 3-night minimum stays during most of the year at most properties. Sometimes there are even 2-night stays available with our Hot Deals!

8. Where is the closest airport to the Alabama Gulf Coast?

Although the Alabama Gulf Coast is usually a driving destination, it is also very easy to fly here. The closest airport is located in Pensacola, Florida - a short 30 mile drive up the coastline.

9. Can I grill at my condo?

Grilling is allowed, but only in designated areas. Some condos, like Turquoise Place, include built-in grills on balconies. Grills are sometimes even provided at common areas at condos.

10. Can I bring my jet skis, boat, or RV with me on vacation?

Since parking spaces are limited at all beach locations, jet skis, boats and RVs are not permitted at most complexes on the Gulf Coast. If you are bringing an RV, bus, extended van or boat trailer, you must call ahead for parking arrangements. Parking fees vary based on location and some restrictions may apply.
